Bottom Line Up Front:
Things should be rolling pretty smoothly at this point, so not much news!
If you have friends who still want to bowl, they need to come with a team or be willing to be a sub.
Well, Pindependents, we're rolling, and we've had a pretty solid start. No recent falls, so that's all good. Your phone number should work as your league membership info for discounts at the snack bar, so if it doesn't, let me know.
Reminder from last week: if you or your team is early, do not start practice until the other team arrives, everyone should get a chance to practice. If other players are not present by 6:20, go ahead and start rolling.
The practice timer is 10 minutes, so if both teams are early and you're ready to go, get rolling.
Don't forget that if you pre-bowl, you must date your score card when you turn it in. Also, please email me if you pre-bowl. I had a pre-bowler last week and they didn't include the score card, so I had no idea. Luckily, he told his teammates, but please, let me know if you pre-bowl.
If you have not bowled yet this season because of missed nights, please let me know if you're planning on coming this season. I have another player I can put on your team if not, so I need to know.
You have 2 free practice games per week! Make sure to let them know that you're practicing, and you can use those games any time M-F until 7pm, Saturday until 6 or all day Sunday.
Masking: Again, Durham County has dropped their indoor mask mandates, so I'm not enforcing masking, but we're seeing a surge in countries where infection control measures have been relaxed, so keep that in mind. Having said all of that, I still am asking folks to be reasonable about infection control: wash your hands, maintain a bit of distance if you can and if you are sick, STAY HOME. Believe it or not, Flu season is not over (ends around the end of April) and we didn't all just come through this to get the flu at a bowling alley.
Anyway, I don't really have much in the way of news. If you had someone on your team last week who didn't have an average/handicap, your wins/losses may look different from what you expected, as that will be done retroactively.
Ever present bowling etiquette reminders:
Be ready to bowl when it's your turn. I know the snack bar lines can be slow, but try to be aware of your turn to bowl and be ready. If you DO have to step away between your turns, let your fellow bowlers know where you are.
Be aware of other bowlers: if 2 bowlers make the approach side by side, the bowler on the right has the right of way. LOOK AROUND. Make sure that when it's your turn, you're not bowling at the same time as the bowlers in the lanes next to you.
Once your turn is done, finish up and get out of the way. Again, we're trying to keep things moving, so once your roll is complete, do your happy dance and let the next bowler approach.
Wear bowling shoes. This should go without saying, but street shoes can damage the approach and lead to falls. Shoes are NOT included in the price of your season, so make sure to rent your shoes when you arrive if you need to.
Keep an eye on food and drink: don't spill near the approach, wet shoes cause falls (trust me on this one). If you're a sloppy eater, then eat at the table behind the benches on the lanes.
Don't be a jerk. No, seriously. We're all here to have fun. Don't be a jerk.
I'm hoping to post each week's stats on www.pindependentbowling.com once I get a better idea how to do that easily without making you download a .pdf. -k- X/X/X/X/X/X/ Keely Godwin League Manager, Social Director, and all around Bowling Buddy Pindependent Durham Bowling Keely@PindependentBowling.com www.pindependentbowling.com X/X/X/X/X/X/
