Bottom Line Up Front: Start of winter season is delayed to 2/20/2022, you can still sign up for the discounted price until 2/13/2022. If you're already signed up, no need to do anything but adjust your calendar.
Here we are, a week out from when we were going to start. However, while it looks like the omicron surge in NC has peaked (although we're still seeing record numbers of positives), and our rates are starting to drop, our state hospitalization rate is still at a record high. Which means our ER and urgent cares are still full of folks with COVID, making getting sick now still very risky (what with staff shortages and bed shortages). If you want a further discussion of that, hit me up, we can discuss--but the long and short of it is that things still suck.
So, while I thought that we'd be able to start at the end of January, out of an abundance of caution-- again-- we're going to delay the start of the Winter 2022 season to Sunday, February 20th. This also makes it so that you can stay home and watch the NFL playoff games and Superb Owl without having to feel guilty about missing bowling. (Although, let's be honest, none of the games going forward are going to be as good as any of the games we saw last weekend).
If you have already registered:
- No worries! You're signed up and good to go. No need to do anything, you'll get your usual "what to expect week 1" email from me the week prior to that date. Though check on your friends and teammates to be sure that they are also signed up. (Registration has been a little bit slow this season)
If you have NOT registered:
- Well, this is one (well, technically a second) time being a procrastinator has benefitted you, as registration at the discount price is STILL open. You can still sign up to bowl for Winter, and if you sign up before 2/14/2022, you will still get the discount.
This is good, because registrations were a little bit sluggish (I only have 17 people registered right now).
Dates to remember:
Feb 13, 2022: last day to register for discounted price
Feb 20, 2022: first day of Winter 2022
Apr 17, 2022: Easter Sunday- no bowling
May 15, 2022: Championship game, end of season pizza party
This means that we'll probably end up combining our Winter and Spring seasons. Normally we'd wind up in March and start again in early April to run to June, but with the delayed start, we won't end until May and unless people want to bowl June/July/August, there probably won't be a spring season. We can discuss as the season winds down.
A few things to keep in mind:
The usual bowling league perks will apply: 3 games on Sundays, 2 free practice games per week, discounts on food and soft drinks at the snack bar, etc.
There will be no post-bowling this season if you miss a week. Pre-bowling only.
Due to payment issues in previous seasons, all bowlers must pay in advance before the season starts. No exceptions.
All bowlers must be vaccinated. Get your vaccine. Stop making excuses. (No, a previous positive test is not the same as a vaccine.)
Bowlers must wear masks at all times. Obviously, you can take your mask down to eat or drink, but put it back on. And remember, the damn thing goes over your nose.
If you are sick have a close exposure, I expect you to quarantine per CDC guidelines. Please see this website for more details on when you should quarantine. Don't bring that nonsense to our league: if you're sick, STAY HOME.
